Challenge Accepted (part TWO)!
So, remember my
Goodreads Reading Challenge post? Well, yeah ever since the post, I've been still reading books and I expanded my challenge to 25 books. I'm almost there!
Again, you should join the
challenge with Goodreads, maybe for your 2016 New Year's Resolution?!
The Good Girl by Mary Kubica; ✮✮✮✮, it was really good--although a bit of Stockholm's Syndrom-esque, but I loved how Kubica wrote the story, you met Mia first then it backtracked to what happened between her and Colin. The ending just hits you more than anything.
The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins; ✮✮✮, by this point I was tired of reading thrillers and such like this kind of books. A very slow read but a little screwed up. I had expectations for this book being "the next Gone Girl". It wasn't, but it was a good read. The ending was good but it fell short. It was a bit predictable as you near the final 100 pages. I hated Rachel. She was weak and couldn't defend herself, she redeemed herself only on a single paragraph then she went back to being weak.
The Mermaid's Sister by Carrie Anne Noble; ✮✮✮✮, this was my first time reading a book in this style, I don't normally read fiction like this but I'm so happy I did. I got this book for free through BookBub (psst, you should subscribe to their daily e-book e-mails! You get deals on e-books, and often e-books for free). I really loved the gypsy-esque world they lived in, although it was a bit confusing to get into at first, but it was truly great.
The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton; ✮✮✮✮, OK, I admit, this isn't a new book on my shelf, but I gave it a re-read after having it on my Kindle for a while. "Stay gold, Ponyboy." This book is a definite classic; life, friendship and how the book is written...just perfect. If you haven't read it yet, I don't know what you're waiting for.
The Boyfriend Theif by Shana Norris; ✮✮✮, Your usual teenage romance story. Girl tries to secretly steal a boy, boy and girl fall in love, girl reveals secret and boy's feelings get hurt. It's a twisted around story from what we're used to which is the opposite--boy steals girl/transforms girl, reveals secret and girl gets mad.... Meh. It was a cute quick story to read, but did I think anymore of it? Nah.
Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs; ✮✮, this book was loaned to me by Gina, but I found it SO hard to get into that I just completely abandoned it. This book is a little too weird for me, off the walls--and I couldn't just keep reading. Not for everybody, I guess! This book doesn't count towards my 25 books goal but thought I should mention it.
I'm starting to slow down on my reading, I have a lot of things on my plate right now--but good news? The weather is getting colder and wetter here in Seattle, it feels more like a book-reading season already! Only five more books to reach my goal and it's the end of October, think I can do it?
I just bought some more books from Barnes and Nobles (I miss Borders tremendously!) for some REALLY good deals so I guess B&N is...okay. I have tons of e-books to catch up on though, but fret not, I have big plans for my reading challenge in 2016!
Psst, the titles of the books listed above are also links to their Goodreads pages along with summaries!
Upcoming (as of what is on my desk right now):
- The Book Thief by Markus Zusak (I literally have shelved this since 2011, I've just never gotten around to reading it and I have two copies--one hard copy and one e-book! Ugh!)
- In the Woods by Tana French (This was my mom's book, and it's been sitting on my shelf for a very long time)
- The Still Point of the Turning World by Emily Rapp
- The Daughters of Mars: A Novel by Thomas Keneally
- The Cuckoo's Calling by Robert Galibrath (AKA J.K. ROWLING THE GODDESS OF US ALL)
- Onward by Howard Schultz
Thank you for leaving a comment! I look forward to read what you've just said and I will respond in a couple of hours!
