#WhyIWrite--National Day of Writing

Why do I write?

Well, ask yourself that question too--why do you write (or if you don't, why you don't)...

For me, writing has always been an outlet to all of my ideas, thoughts and stories. Back in High School, I used to write some short Harry Potter fan fiction with a friend (that never got completed, but that's not the point). I loved scribbling on pieces of paper whenever I had the chance to. Writing has always been a part of me.

Not a lot of Deaf people have access to a great education and many of us struggle with English in general. If you didn't know already, American Sign Language is a "spoken" language not a written language--but most Deaf people write as if they're signing ASL. English is usually our second or even third languages, and that's why most of us struggle.

My journey to a struggle-free English has been through writing. I write as much whenever I can to maintain my skill in writing, I majored in a writing/communication field, and I have the fabulous world of social media to uphold my daily writing capabilities. I've been oh so lucky to have some great family members supporting me in my education process that included a lot of mainstreamed (me going to a hearing English class) classes mainly for writing/English that has helped me get here today, but not a lot of people are as lucky.

I write because I want YOU to know Deaf people can write, regardless of what level your writing/English is. It's a form of expression, and express away!

I write because there's not a lot of Deaf bloggers writing about the things they care the most about; politics, education, life and everything else.

I write because it's fun, and it should be ALWAYS fun.

Why do you write?
