My Essential Oil Journey

"Huh? You're one of those health freaks now?"

No.

In no way partaking with the amazing essential oil world is being a "health freak", it's about being wholesome with what you're putting in your body. As matter of fact, I'm no where close to being a health freak (I'm currently eating pizza rolls as I write this).

Just keep reading, trust me. I want to say in advance that I am no way an expert in oils, but you can ask me questions and I'll try my best to answer or to direct you to someone who would know more than me!

I've always had chronic migraines, headaches and I get sick VERY easily. This has dramatically reduced since I started using doTERRA essential oils.

I had the same doubts that are probably running through your mind right now, "do the oils even work?" "why would I do this?" and "isn't this some kind of another scam?"

Yes, because it works, and no.

I was an avid pill popper, a headache coming? Pop. Sore muscles? Pop. Cold/cough coming? Pop. I can't tell you how much medicine/pills I've popped in my life, but I can tell you how much medicine/pills I have taken in the last 10 months...three pills (not including antibiotics or prescribed medication). I've only resorted to medicine when I wasn't anywhere near my oils.

A close family friend first got my mom into oils, I wasn't so sure for a very long time. But then my dad started using it, my dad is one of the hardest people I would believe that believes something other than medication works. So if he says it works, I believe him! What part of it actually works? Now I know, and I can say everything about it works. But like medication, each oil works a little differently on people.

I first tried out Peppermint oil for my headaches, and after few tries--it just plainly didn't work. My mom urged me to try again after few months along with Deep Blue (aka IcyHot-esque oil), then it worked. It worked and it was so hard to believe, but who am I to question something that works perfectly for me. I learned about reflex points and other areas on my body to topically put oils on.

My first mistake that I made was putting Peppermint in the bath tub, water is an activator and a strengthener--so it made a single drop of oil even stronger. It burned me. But luckily, I had Lavender on hand to soothe that. Lesson learned, peppermint in tub? No. Now I use Peppermint with a carrier oil (an oil that dilutes your essential oil and makes it easier to spread) which is usually Fractionated Coconut Oil (FCO) among other carrier oils.

Lavender is my favorite oil. I use it for literally everything; sunburn relief, soothing bath salts, diffusing for bed time, and to heal cuts I have on me. Lavender was what made me a believer in essential oils, after you try it--there's no turning back.

My stock is slowly increasing, mainly of Lavender, Clary Calm, Peppermint, Melaleuca, OnGuard, Lemon, Deep Blue and some more oil blends. My mom sent me a diffuser (for oil use only, when you're looking for diffusers, make sure you're using the right kind) and "The Essential Life" book full of oil uses. I'm still overwhelmed at how much the oils can be used and how much they overlap with other oils!

Oral Health section in the book!
Just an example of what you get in the book! Pretty amazing.
Again, I am no expert--I might be using an oil improperly. Consult an expert before you attempt something you're not comfortable with. Some oils are okay for indigestion, and some are not! Refer "The Essential Life" for whether it can be used in food/drinks or to use it topically or to diffuse it.

My uses for Lavender oil: I rub it on my throat for sore throats, chest and on pillow for relaxation before bed time. I put a couple of drops in epsom salt for baths, a couple of drops diffusing for sleep and rubbing a couple of drops with lotion for some sunburn relief, and many more. Cat ladies out there, Lavender is great for rubbing on any cuts your fur-babies leave on you, it heals super fast and Lavender cleans the bacteria off your wound--Neosporin out, Lavender in!

My uses for Clary Calm roller blend: I ADORE this blend, I have always suffered from bad side effects while having my period--this clears most of it out! I just roll on the blend around my lower stomach and lower back, my cramps and back pain would be gone in minutes. It helps when you have heat on too! I've never looked back on Midol or any of those worthless cramp medication after this.

My uses for Peppermint oil: mixed with FCO on temples and neck for headaches, diffusing for the pick me up smell (I don't know about you but I LOVE the smell of peppermint), warding off Lila's scratching by mixing a couple of drops of Peppermint and water to spray on the couch corners, and many many many more uses!

My uses for Melaleuca oil: I dilute this oil because it's super strong and it leaves me burning a little, but I use it with FCO for any zits that are appearing or have appeared then it goes away. This oil is great for any scarring that you'd like to reduce. Keep this away from your cats though, this is a tea tree oil!

My uses for OnGuard oil: OnGuard is a blend of oils that keeps you healthy! My mom swears by putting a drop on the bottoms of her feet every night before bed, but I just mainly use it in my baths and diffusing it when I'm feeling a cold come on.

My uses for Lemon oil: In my tea! One drop of lemon oil = whole lemon. I love the taste it leaves in my tea with honey, it soothes my throat so much. Lemon can be used to disinfect your things as well, I've used it as an air purifier while diffusing it. The room always smells so much more cleaner.

My uses for Deep Blue oil/rub: Achy muscles. Always. I rub the oil (if I'm not using the rub which is exactly like IcyHot) with some carrier oils like FCO to evenly spread it into the muscle that hurts. It's a great massage tool, and it works instantly. A couple of nights I've woken up with achy muscles and rubbed in some Deep Blue then fallen back to sleep with no pain--all in less than five minutes! Great for period cramps if it becomes too painful!

I have so many more oils that I turn to for other uses, but I don't want to overwhelm you like I overwhelmed myself in my first immersion in the essential oil world. I'm sure by now you're feeling a little lost and don't know where to start...I know the feeling! Just message me if you have any more questions, I would be happy to try and answer them!

All in all, my health has improved since I started using essential oils, and I encourage the people around me to try some oils. It can just change your life! This is why I'm including you in my journey, I want to hear about your own journey if you decide to do so. I hope this post helps you decide whether you want to include oils to your daily routine or whether not to.

There are thousands of oils out there, and I want to try more--when I do, I promise to update you on my essential oil journey. Do you have a personal experience with using essential oils? How was it, what do you suggest or tell me about your experience in the comments.

Thank you for leaving a comment! I look forward to read what you've just said and I will respond in a couple of hours!
