DIY glitter heels!

Yes, you read that right...DIY glitter heels! I thought this would be really tough to do, and never wanted to spend that ridiculous amount of money on expensive glittery shoes. (I have an obsession with glitter, but always am broke.) So when I was helping out the Alpha Sigma Alpha sisters, Britnee's sorority, for their event this Sunday--Heel Violence (psst, go check the website and the Facebook page out!). It's an event showing our support for victims of domestic violence, co-hosted with Advocacy Services for Abused Deaf Victims (ASADV).

We were coming up with ways to make our NTID president, Gerald Buckley, and Robb Adams' heels pop out from the crowd on Sunday....we came up with the idea of glittery heels--but that sounded so hard and so time-consuming. We were sorely wrong.

Find out below! (Edited at 7:01 pm with pictures of Gerald Buckley in the heels!)
I didn't take much pictures, but Britnee and I started out with some patent leather heels from Payless for only $20. We also scavenged JoAnn's for some glitter, we got some in this amazing burnt orange color, and something that would make the glitter stick without using paint. We found the Tulip Fashion Glitter Bond (which worked AMAZING).

We, of course, were working with glitter--it would be really messy. Naturally, you'll need newspapers to scoop up all the glitter back in the bottle. You don't want to waste anything!

This was the glitter we used, see what I mean? It's GORGEOUS! (It's also a Texas Longhorns color, so yeah I'm in love.)

We simply applied the glitter bonding glue with the foam triangles provided, we applied a little bit on the heavy side so that we were sure the glitter would stick. We worked in sections, although we did huge sections. After each section, we poured glitter on it then shook the excess off. We wiped some excess off so we could apply the glue on the next section.

One of the shoes finished! It just sparkled perfectly in the light. This was only the first coat. There were some spots where it needed a touch up--but that would be very easy to do. (Apply a little glue on your finger and dab the spots, then go over it again with glitter.)

So much glitter left over, we didn't even use HALF of the bottle for two pairs of heels. (I kept the other bottle, thanks Britnee!)

The biggest thing Britnee and I made sure was to leave it and let it set for more than few hours before doing anything more to it such as second coats and the heel part. The whole glittering process took us less than a hour to do! The clean up was another story....

Today the ASA ladies are presenting it to Gerald Buckley and Robb Adams, let's see what they think of these gorgeous heels and take some official pictures! (Will keep you guys posted about that!)

EDIT (7:01 pm): Pictures with Gerald Buckley has been taken!

They look FABULOUS on Gerald Buckley! So proud! <3

Thank you for leaving a comment! I look forward to read what you've just said and I will respond in a couple of hours!
